Allietarecherith..clue 5 completed

Clue 5

This week's clue was posted the day after Christmas. Again Bonnie uses great sites as inspiration for her blocks. This week's are within the windows of a church. I was not able to work on mine until Monday and finished today. This week no cutting...just block building. I made several wild and goosy paper piecing blocks as tried hand sewing them. It is much slower, but very doable. I may do some of these during traveling to and from Arizonia. Good car project. This week's scraps limited to the small triangles on the larger blocks, but they fit in the paper pattern. So here are some pictures.

Bonnie's inspiration.

I tired to mix up all my neutrals. These blocks went together pretty well.

We had our first winter storm...we got 6 inches! A mixed bag of snow, freezing rain, and sleet.

Christmas

Had a wonderful Christmas with both sides of the family. Holzhueter side was at our home in Waterloo. So nice to be with family. Today got my permanent crown. I also ironed and sorted fabric to take to Arizonia to work on the 365 Challege quilt. This begins January 1st. The link is on my blog sidebar. Will focus on blues, greens and browns. A bright pink for minor contrast.

Bonnie's link-up party week 4

This week brought us back to reds, neutrals and blacks. Also the return of the trapezoid block. First my blocks and then Bonnie's inspiration this week. Sure love these old buildings.

So if we did not perfect this block with easy angle and companion rulers, this week returned to these techniques. I have been sewing in sets, but as my proficiency improved I worked my way up to sewing two sets. Pick fabric combinations, cut, sew, press is all that is needed. This week took a bit longer for some reason. I however switched to Christmas music. These seemed to improve the speed. Of course all the other distractions of my girls being home and enjoying them along with more cooking. These are my blocks. I even threw is some Wild and Goosey blocks as they are so fun and with some of the scraps are perfect.

Gypsy Queen-Arizonia style

Participated in the Gypsy Queen QAL mystery. This was a great mystery with clue every Friday to tie me over until Quiltville mystery. I used some of my favorite color themes. I decided to do two colors to use some of my stash so I did half the amount posted. In the end I was short a few blocks and had some extras that I will use for the backing. So I adjusted my final layout. I noticed I did not have enough for final border so found some fabric at Joanns yesterday. The other quilt found some in my stash. Today finished adding one of the borders.

Today we brought out the Christmas decorations and did some decorating. This is the first year doing it and I am not working. We are trying to downsize so I imagine that we will thin out again this year. Still looking to move in spring if we get an expected offer on the house and find a log cabin home in our price range.

Two days ago I got my first crown on a upper left molar way in back. Process was ok but the past few days my last molar is very tender along the back side gum line away from the temporary crown. So ASA and salt water swishes past day. A bit better today.

Girls are studying for finals. Hannah excited as has her last "class" in college. Next semester she student teaches. Cherith feels all alone and the campus is bare...everyone must be studying. Abi is working. They will be all home next week.

So we have been slowly packing for Arizonia. Clothes in space bags. Got a router/modem for Internet  and Rocu for streaming TV shows. We will see how that works down there. Plan at this time is to leave around January 5th pending any storms. We need a 4 day window to get down there. So excited to see and live in our new AZ home, meet neighbors and do all the sunflower activities.

Clue 3 of Allietarecherith completed

This week we get to use our neutrals and golds. I picked up some additional Wisconsin Badger fabric and another fat quarter of a neural I like. This way a bit more Badger red fabric in the quilt.

This week is four patches. I really concentrated on cutting accuracy and this payed in less trimming. I actually cut WOF and then cut those in half and mixed up the fabrics. I took my time, but actually it went very fast. I really love the gold fabrics. They do look like Wisconsin Cheddar Cheese.

Bonnie always uses something for her inspiration of the colors in her blocks. Here is her inspiration.
I am also providing the link-up to others working on the project.

Would like to sit and people watch.

Would love to walk down these narrow streets.

Bonnie's four patch and easy way to do blocks.

Trying to mix up my fabrics.

So let us see quilt progress...

So ready for next week's clue. Time to work on other projects.

So fun to use the red fabrics with the gray and neutral fabrics. Enjoy listening to iTunes Italian radio music station. I have been jotting down names of songs to add to the quilt. Finished up the 10 sets and added additional 6 sets for back up. Also into my blacks to cut some squares. Some are saying these blocks maybe borders for the quilt...only Bonnie knows. Some have also mentioned they look like Santa hats. I have seen more color variations. Greens and autumn colors...aqua and purple. Even some green and gold. Since this quilt is spoken for maybe might do another in some of my favorite colors....we will see. It is so nice to sew and enjoy the process. Tomorrow some house cleaning and then to scrap box to do some wild and Goosey blocks.

I have so enjoyed these linkups. So many different fabric selections.

Friday, December 4

Enjoy the pictures that inspire Bonnie's fabric color selection. This week continues with use if the easy angle ruler and the companion ruler. We continue with the gray that is constant thru the quilt and now get to use our reds. So I got to pair the Reds with some of the neutrals. 4 blocks must be the same, pinning them together for a future clue. Managed to get 10 sets of 4 blocks with 10 remaining to do tomorrow. Very much like the red, neutral and gray colors together. We are also cutting some gray and black blocks. Will be interesting when the gold comes in to play with this design.

This week got to use some of the lovely red fabric for this mystery. (Allietare)   Red is Cherith's favorite color. Hopping this quilt has a lot of it. So far I am liking the color and fabric choices. A few reds are from my Downton Abbey English Manor quilt..so tone completely finished. Of course there is some WisconsinBadgers, but no Packers as green was not a color. Maybe in will sneak a bit for the back. Speaking of Packers...not doing so well. Last night they won with a Hail Mary pass with no time on the clock due to a defensive penalty. Richard Rodgers caught the ball in the end zone for a winning touchdown. Pretty exciting, since they played terrible and we're about to loose the game to the Lions.

Got 10 of the 20 sets done. Will finish this weekend.

Auditioning the neutrals

Play nice together

Love this picture from Bonnie Hunter and her trip to Italy. Would love a red bush like this sometime.

We continue to look for our dream log cabin home up north. Saw two homes, but not real thrilled in them. Then this evening found one we both like so may look at that one next week. It would be an even trade from our present home. It also may mean if we out an offer in that we would have to try to sell the home while down in Arizona. We see how it all works out. Next week getting my first crown and a hair cut...want to grow it out a bit.
Beautiful sunny day today. In the mid 40's, so will go for a walk soon.
